Matèria is pleased to continue its exhibition program with Manta ray, a group exhibition curated by Ornella Paglialonga - opening on Saturday September 11 - featuring works by Eduardo Fonseca E Silva & Francisca Valador, Helena Hladilova, Jacopo Pagin, Catherine Parsonage and Amedeo Polazzo.
The exhibition is born with the intention of highlighting the autotelic character of the artwork, a characteristic that embodies the ultimate or contingent finality of being and becoming. Thus the exhibition itinerary is designed to radiate an enigmatic and seductive aura, in which each work attracts the viewer with the objective of furthering a connection without the necessity and definition of a particular theme.
Moreover, the works selected by Ornella Paglialonga allow us to relate to them in a fluid and somewhat inexplicable way, through a disconnect from the limiting notions often used to represent the identity of the work and its role in the world.
The six artists, all born between the late 80s and 90s, use a wide array of mediums, ranging from painting (Amedeo Polazzo and Jacopo Pagin) to drawing (Catherine Parsonage), to sculpture and installation (Helena Hladilova) and watercolor works (Eduardo Fonseca And Silva & Francisca Valador).
Manta ray takes its name from an artwork by Catherine Parsonage that greets and guides the viewer towards the exhibited works, revealing their elusive nature through evocative and surreal components. Matèria’s space is thus inhabited by an uncanny atmosphere that hints to an illusion, one where each piece is in dialogue with the other to favour a dreamlike, illegible and evasive imaginary.
The exhibition runs at the gallery until October 16, 2021.
